Serving Like Jesus

Learning that serving is a reflection of Jesus and not a burdensome task.  Let’s look biblically at why and how we should serve others in the short four-part devotional.

Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransoms for many.

- Matthew 20:28

Reflection

Serving can feel tiring, unnoticed, or even burdensome.  It’s hard to stay motivated when the world keeps tearing you down, it’s make you want to give up and give in.  Why am I doing this?  They’re not even grateful!  I’m sick of being a slave!  Wait.  This isn’t for me or to satisfy other people, our human flesh.

Serving is a reflection of Jesus himself.

When our desire fades, it might be because we’ve taken our eyes off of Jesus.  The Bible tell us to work at everything with all of our hearts so why would we give up?

We we have moments where it’s hard to keep going in our jobs, relationships, hobbies, etc.  Remember that this is all for Gods glory and keep going!

Whatever you do, work at it with all of your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters. - Colossians 3:23

Heart of Service

Serving is the fruit of a deep connection and relationship with God.  What we do isn’t just for others but an offering for Him.  Remember, Jesus doesn’t just look at our actions but also our heart.  If we belong to Christ than our hearts have to be transformed through the blood of Christ.  It’s going to be hard at times because the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak, but we have to keep going!

Serving is showing that we are taking the step to be closer to Christ by following His teachings.  It’s proving our love and honor to him and for those around us.

Your life, and the way you live, should be an example and inspiration to people of the good work God has done in you.

Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. - Galatians 5:24

The Reminder

Fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and the perfected of faith.  For the joy set before him, he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

- Hebrews 12:2

This is our reminder, our life was made to be in a relationship with God, to worship God, to love God, to serve God.  So, when we serve remember it’s for Him. Loving God, worshipping God, serving God means obeying His word.  He has commanded us to love one another as He does, to serve not to be serve, to have the same mindset as Christ.

Evil tells us serving is beneath us and we deserve more. God tells us serving shines His light into a dark world. Don’t let the devil take away what God has given us by manipulating your perspective of a beautiful task.

Romans 12 says remember to be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourself.  Love must be sincere.

FIX YOUR EYES ON JESUS.

Takeaway

When serving feels heavy, look up not around.

Keep your eyes on Jesus and

Keep Fighting the Good Fight!
